HIGH PRESSURE TEST UNIT

ARES Provides HP Test Unit Sales, Design, Technical, Testing & Commercial support

A High-Pressure Test Unit (HPTU) is a specialized system used to test the integrity and performance of equipment that operates under high-pressure conditions, such as Blowout Preventers (BOPs), wellhead components, pipelines, valves, and pressure vessels. It ensures these components can withstand operational pressures safely without leaks or failures.

Functions of a High-Pressure Test Unit

  • Pressure Testing: Verifies the structural integrity and leak resistance of equipment under simulated operating conditions.

  • Hydrostatic & Pneumatic Testing:

    • Hydrostatic Test (water-based): Uses pressurized water to check for leaks and material strength.

    • Pneumatic Test (gas-based, e.g., nitrogen or air): Uses compressed gas to detect very fine leaks.

  • Data Recording: Logs pressure values over time to detect potential weaknesses.

  • Safety Assurance: Ensures compliance with industry standards (e.g., API, ANSI, ISO) before equipment is deployed.

Key Components of a High-Pressure Test Unit

  1. Pressure Pump – Generates the required test pressure (typically hydraulic, pneumatic, or electric-driven).

  2. Accumulator – Stores and maintains pressurized fluid or gas.

  3. Control Panel – Used to regulate pressure and monitor test parameters.

  4. Pressure Gauges & Sensors – Provide real-time monitoring of pressure levels.

  5. Relief Valves – Prevent over-pressurization and ensure safety.

  6. Test Manifold – Distributes the test fluid to multiple test points.

  7. Hoses & Fittings – Rated for high-pressure applications and connect the system to the test equipment.

  8. Data Acquisition System (DAS) – Records pressure readings for analysis and reporting.

Types of High-Pressure Test Units

  • Portable Units: Compact, skid-mounted, or trailer-mounted for field testing.

  • Stationary Units: Fixed in workshops for testing multiple components.

  • Automated Test Systems: Computer-controlled for high accuracy and efficiency.

Applications

  • Oil & Gas Industry: BOPs, wellheads, and Christmas trees.

  • Aerospace & Automotive: Hydraulic and fuel systems.

  • Manufacturing & Pipelines: Pressure vessels and industrial valves.
